Sushi Girl (feat. Ms Margot)

by Graham Stoney

/

about

This song was inspired by a failed attempt to flirt with a girl in the ticket queue on a Saturday evening at the 2016 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. I came up with the melody and chord progression on a Ukulele at Docklands a few days later to help ease the pain.

lyrics

[Chorus]
Pretty girl eating sushi in the line
You and I are gonna get on fine (get on fine)
In my dreams on a Saturday night
If reality would just subside

[Verse 1]
I smoothly say "You came prepared!"
You respond with the blankest stare
Maybe you're in a real bad mood
Or maybe you're a real big prude

[Verse 2]
Don't want to chat to a stranger in the queue
You'd rather pay to get amused
We could have ended up going steady
Or I could settle for hot & heavy

[Chorus]
Pretty girl eating sushi in the line
You and I are gonna get on fine (get on fine)
In my dreams on a Saturday night
If reality would just subside

[Verse 3]
Why are girls here so unfriendly?
Have I two heads that I can't see?
Alone again on a Saturday night
I choke my tears and swallow my pride

[Instrumental Verse]

[Chorus]
Pretty girl eating sushi in the line
You and I are gonna get on fine (get on fine)
In my dreams on a Saturday night
If reality would just subside

[Final Chorus]
Pretty girl eating sushi in the line
You and I are gonna get on fine (get on fine)
In my dreams on a Saturday night
If reality would just subside
